Pathologist tells inquest baby Willow died from broncho pneumonia
A pathologist has told the inquest into the death of Willow Kemp atManchester Children's hospital she died from broncho pneumonia.
Dr Cheeseman said the post mortem examination showed the 20 month oldhad a chronic lung infection.
He said In his opinion, hyperkalemia, too much potassium in her bloodwasn't a contributory factor in her death.
Mr Bridgman, Acting for Willow's parents in his submission said therewas overwhelming evidence hyperkalemia contributed to her death.
The family believe there is evidence of neglect because staff failedto monitor their daughter's potassium blood levels whilst she wasbeing given extraordinary high dose of potassium.
An independent expert Dr Ross Russell told the inquest yesterday thetreatment of Willow was 'bold and risky ' but required 'close andcareful monitoring.'
The Inquest heard a nurse looking after Willow didn't check herpotassium levels for almost 4 hours.
A Registrar also failed to consult senior colleagues about Willow'shigh levels just hours before she suffered a cardiac arrest.
The Coroner for Manchester Nigel Meadows is about to consider his conclusions.
