Saturday - Met Office Warning for Rain

Met Office warning for heavy downpours, surface spray and dangerous driving conditions until 8pm

Areas of heavy rain and thundery showers will affect parts of southern and central Britain during the rest of Saturday. The public should be aware that this may cause local disruption, primarily to Bank Holiday travellers and outdoor events.

A complex area of low pressure is generating areas of heavy rain at present, with the brighter skies that follow then encouraging formation of thundery showers into the afternoon. These may produce in excess of 10 mm of rain in an hour, with a few areas seeing 30 mm or so in just a few hours.

Larger totals are most likely for southwest England and south Wales, where the showers are slow-moving, but the warning does cover southern counties of the Granada region.

Not everywhere will receive the heavy showers and thunderstorms but where they do occur, surface water may affect travel.

This is an update of the warning issued on Friday and is in place until 8pm for the following areas.....

Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Greater Manchester, Warrington, Halton
