Anne Reid to star in new drama about the history of Chester Zoo
The Last Tango In Halifax star Anne Reid is to star in a new drama about the real-life family story behind ground-breaking Chester Zoo.
The series - called Our Zoo - will look at the eccentric figures behind the wildlife park which was established by George Mottershead in the 1930s. George had been determined to establish a zoo without bars after visiting Belle Vue near Manchester as a youngster.
After overcoming local opposition, he and his family opened their zoo in 1931 in the grounds around a Victorian mansion, Oakfield Manor. Anne Reid, who's 78 has been cast as Lucy Mottershead, the mother of ex-serviceman George.
The series will also feature Ralf Little, who takes the role of Lizzie's mischievous brother Billy Atkinson.
