Details released for civic funeral for Sir Tom Finney
Preston City Council says there will be a civic funeral for Sir Tom Finney at 1.00pm on Thursday 27 February at Preston Minster.
This will be followed by a private interment service for Sir Tom’s family.

Where to see the funeral
Arrangements are being made to broadcast the funeral of Sir Tom Finney live on the big screen inside Deepdale Stadium - the home of Preston North End and where Sir Tom graced the pitch and played most of his games.
With the number of people who are expected to watch the funeral, this live broadcast will be by ticket only.

Deepdale is the only place where you will be guaranteed to be able to watch the funeral. Given the number of people attending the funeral, Church Street (by Preston Minster) will be closed to traffic and pedestrians.
Anyone in this area will have a restricted view of the funeral and there are no broadcast facilities in the city centre.
Funeral cortege
You are also welcome to watch the funeral cortege from the side of the road.
The description of the route is as follows:
Start at Preston North End, Deepdale Stadiumthen along Sir Tom Finney Way and Deepdale Road
Right on to Ringway
Then left on to Tithebarn Street, in front of Preston Bus Station
Right on to Lord Street
Left on to Lancaster Roadleft onto Church Street, arriving at Preston Minster
Timings for the funeral cortege
2.15pm - the funeral cortege will pass Preston North End’s Deepdale Stadium
12.40pm – at Tithebarn Street, the funeral cortege will be met and escorted by Police horses from Lancashire Constabulary.
12.40pm to 12.45pm – the funeral cortege will be met outside Preston Guildhall by representatives from the Preston and District Veterans Association.
Veterans will lower their standards as a mark of respect and also to acknowledge Sir Tom’s service during World War II.
12.50pm – funeral cortege arrives at Preston Minster
