Campaigner Susan May dies waiting for appeal decision
Susan May, who was jailed for murdering her elderly aunt, has died just weeks before a decision was due on her appeal.
The 68-year-old always denied killing Hilda Marchbank at her home in the Royton area of Oldham in 1993.
A central part of the evidence against her was a bloody handprint which linked her to the scene of the crime.
But a new report from a forensics expert in Holland had cast doubt over whether the handprint was actually blood at all.
Ms May was hoping the Criminal Cases Review Commission would grant her a third appeal against her conviction.
Ms May had been suffering a recurrence of cancer.
Friends have promised to continue campaigning to clear her name.
There will be a memorial service on 16 November.
