New jobs at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital Trust

A NHS trust is recruiting more than 100 staff following the announcement of £4m of extra government funding.

Recruitment of the 110 mostly permanent staff began on Monday (23 September) and includes positions for nurses, medical staff, radiologists, sonographers, pharmacists and therapists.

Jonathan Parry, Chief Executive, said: “We saw an unprecedented rise in people needing urgent care last winter, particularly older people attending Southport hospital.

“The successful funding bid, which announced earlier this month to support the health care of people in north Sefton and West Lancashire, was backed by our colleagues in the local NHS and local government. I believe it recognises the benefits of working together and the strength of our plans.”

Director of Nursing Liz Yates said the additional staff would also embed a longer-term programme, Care Closer to Home, focusing on better care for people at greatest risk of needing urgent hospital treatment.

“In practice this means acting promptly to treat patients with long-term conditions, such as respiratory illnesses, at home who are otherwise at risk of being admitted to hospital.

“At the same time we will monitor patients who have been discharged from hospital, acting where necessary to ensure they stay fit and so reducing the risk of them being readmitted.”
