Heywood honours brave soldier

A soldier from Heywood is to having the main street in his home town named after him.

Lance Corporal Stephen Shaw, 24, was awarded the Military Cross after risking his life to save a colleague's in Afghanistan.

Part of Church Street in Heywood will be reamed today in his honour as L/Cpl Stephen Shaw MC Way.

The family of LC Shaw said they it is a fantastic honour.

The dad-of-one stays with his family in the town when not on active duty.

L/Cpl Shaw will also be made a Freeman of the Borough at a special ceremony at the civic centre.

There will also be a minute's silence observed for Drummer Lee Rigby who died in the Woolwich terror attack.
