The Hillsborough campaigner Anne Williams has died. She had been diagnosed last year with terminal cancer.

The 62 year old's last public appearance was earlier this week at Anfield for the Hillsborough Memorial Service.

Ms Williams was being cared for at the home of her brother Danny in Southport.

Sources close to the family say she died peacefully in her sleep at 2am this morning.

Anne Williams' lost her 15 year old son Kevin in the 1989 Hillsborough Stadium disaster.

It was her fight to get his inquest verdict of accidental death overturned that is credited with leading to fresh hearings for all of the 96 supporters who died.

She was once quoted as saying: "The sooner we can get the truth, the sooner the families will be able to get on with their lives."
