Elections take place on the 15th November

Tomorrow it's hoped people across the North West will take to the polls to vote in their first crime commissioner. There are concerns there will be a low turn out for the elections though. Check out the facts below to find out just what the job will entail.

Police and crime commissioners' role is to listen to their communities and act accordingly They'll make key decisions on things like the budget, CCTV to tackling gangs and drug-dealing. See below for a list of some of their responsibilities.

  • Holding the chief constable to account for the delivery of the force

  • Setting and updating a police and crime plan

  • Setting the force budget

  • Regularly engaging with the public and communities

  • Appointing, and where necessary dismissing, the chief constable

The first PCC elections will take place on 15 November 2012. Elected PCCs will take office on 22 November
