Four members of a crime gang who left a grenade on a wall at Kenny Dalglish's home lose appeals.

Four members of an underworld gang responsible for a series of shootings - and leaving a hand grenade on the front wall of former Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish's home - have lost challenges against their sentences.

Kirk Bradley, 27, of Birkey Lane, Formby; Anthony Downes, 26, of no fixed address; Joseph Farrell, 24, of Brandearth Hey in Stockbridge Village; and Craig Riley, 26, of Boode Croft, also in Stockbridge Village, had their cases rejected by leading judges at the Court of Appeal.

Lord Justice Treacy, sitting with two other judges in London, dismissed their appeal applications, ruling that there was no arguable case against the sentences imposed.

He said the gang had been involved in an "extreme form of gangland warfare", with the use of "ruthless and calculated violence".

Bradley and Downes, who led the criminal group, were both handed life sentences at London's Woolwich Crown Court in March and ordered to serve minimum terms of 22 years after being convicted of conspiracy to possess firearms with intent to endanger life and conspiracy to cause damage with intent to endanger life.

Farrell and Riley admitted possessing firearms and causing criminal damage with intent to endanger life and were also jailed for life. Farrell is serving a minimum of 12 years and Riley was handed a minimum of 14 years.

The minimum term, or tariff, is the least period to be served before a prisoner can apply for release on parole.

The gang carried out shootings and grenade attacks and operated on behalf of others in the Liverpool underworld.

The grenade was left on Dalglish's front wall in July 2009, when he was not Liverpool's manager, and it was not intended for him.

Among their crimes, the gang were responsible for kidnapping a man, shooting him and leaving him abandoned in a wood; shooting another man in a pub; pumping seven bullets into someone's house; gunning a man down because he ejected gatecrashing troublemakers from a party; and various grenade attacks.
