Fundraiser for Widnes groom

A groom-to-be who fell into a coma after suffering serious head injuries on his stag weekend in Tenerife is still unable to talk or walk.

30 year old Mark Shepard from Widnes a keen rugby player was celebrating his up and coming nuptials in Tenerife in June when he fell and hit his head on a stone pillar.

After spending three weeks in hospital in the Canary islands he was airlifted to Whiston Hospital. Mark is now in a specialist unit in Netherley but still cannot speak or move properly.

Today Widnes Vikings all stars will play charity match for him today against Halton Simms Cross amateur rugby team.

The game kicks off at 1.30pm at Gossages Rec in Dundalk Road, Widnes.

Fundraising will continue from 7pm at Widnes Bowling Club, next to Stobart Stadium in Lowerhouse Lane.
