United programme from 1909 sets auction record
A world record has been set for the sale of the 1909 FA Cup Final programme, detailing the clash between Manchester United and Bristol City.
The programme has been sold for £23,500 at Sotheby's by Graham Budd Auctions.
The previous record was set in 2006 at £21,850 when the 1889 FA Cup Final programme went under the hammer.
Auctioneer Graham Budd said: "The 1909 FA Cup Final was between Manchester United and Bristol City it was Manchester United's first ever appearance in an FA Cup final and Bristol City's only ever appearance in an FA Cup final.
"It is extremely scarce and the first time that one has ever been offered at auction.
"It was bought by a UK collector.
"With Manchester United have a global brand there was some discussion it might go overseas but it did not in the end."
