Politicians have been debating the design and how to fund the new hospital for the past few years.
The States of Jersey have adopted the future hospital proposition.
30 voted in favour and 16 against.
The main proposition approves the preferred scheme and authorizes Jersey's government to borrow up to £275 million to pay for it.
The whole plan will cost more than £466 million.
Back in 2011, Gary reported on a £293 million plan to build one. Nine years later, he looks back on what has happened in that time.
The contract is with a consortium made up of local construction firm ROK and Spanish builders FCC.
Deputy Susie Pinel today told the States Assembly that cash reserves held by government may, instead, be enough to cover the cost.
