Jersey Care Inquiry report released

The Independent Jersey Care Inquiry report has been published this afternoon.

The key findings include:

  • A condemnation of decades of institutional failure for vulnerable children in the island;
  • Haut de la Garenne building should be demolished for the sake of survivors;
  • children today 'may still be at risk'.

The investigation into historical child abuse in the island's care system has taken three years to complete and cost more than £20 million pounds.

Questions on Care Inquiry report in Jersey States sitting

Jersey politicians are being quizzed on conduct this morning.

The States Assembly is meeting, with many members keen to get answers and reaction from others, following the publication of the Jersey Care Inquiry report yesterday.

Deputy Montford Tadier says he will ask the following question, after the report found Deputy Andrew Lewis had lied to the States Assembly.
