Explosion at Flamanville nuclear station

An explosion has ripped through a machine room at the giant power station on the Norman coast at Flamanville this morning, injuring five workers but not resulting in any leakage of radioactivity, French authorities reassured.

The blast occurred at 10am French time in a machine room and sent smoke into the air above one of the reactors at the site causing concern to local residents.

Jersey Police say Flamanville blast is 'not a nuclear incident'

The States of Jersey Police are reassuring islanders that the explosion at the French nuclear power station, is "not a nuclear incident".

In a statement issued earlier today they say that "the matter has now been resolved" and they are remaining in contact with their French colleagues.

A minor incident occurred this morning at the Flamanville nuclear facility caused by a small explosion which resulted in a small fire. The facility notified SoJP as a matter of courtesy and confirmed that the fire has been extinguished, that there are no injuries or any further risks and that this is NOT a nuclear incident.
