Busy start to the year for Guernsey ambulance service

Guernsey's ambulance service saw a busy start to 2017, receiving twice their average number of emergency calls yesterday.

Staff at St John responded to 30 incidents, nine of which were potentially life threatening.

These included patients suffering with chest pain, breathing difficulties and fitting patients.

calls were from elderly people who had fallen.

The service responded to an elderly lady who had been involved in a minor incident with a bicycle at Perelle when crossing the road, the lady was assessed by a paramedic at the scene and required no further treatment.

The service was [also] called to Havelet Bay slipway to a visitor to the island who had been jumping into the sea and suffered a back injury.

The young gentleman was treated at the scene and transferred to the Emergency Department.
