Pair appear in court charged with smuggling asylum seeker into Jersey

A couple, accused of attempting to smuggle an asylum seeker into Jersey in the boot of their car, have appeared in court this morning.

Amanda and Arsalan Merreakhy allegedly brought Mr Merreakhy's brother, Amir Merikhi, into the island from France.

Today, the pair had their case committed to Jersey's Royal Court.

The defendants, who live in Yorkshire, have had their bail conditions relaxed and will now appear at Dewsbury Police Station once a week rather than every day.
