New electricity regulator could be appointed in Sark

Sark's government is considering creating a new regulator with the powers to force down electricity prices.

The commissioner would have the right to make a power provider slash their tariffs to what's being described as a "fair" amount.

At the moment, Sark has some of the most expensive electricity in the world.

If a new regulator is appointed, they will be required to...

• Investigate the price which is charged by a relevant electricity supplier for the supply of electricity.
• Determine whether a price which is charged by a relevant electricity supplier for the supply of electricity is, or is not, fair and reasonable.
