A group pushing for political reform in Sark is planning to take its fight to the European Court of Human Rights.

Sark First wants a review of the electoral system on the island.

They say the First Past the Post system of voting that is currently used leads to elections that do not reflect the views of islanders.

Ultimately, they say they want the government to repeal the reform laws of 2008 and 2010, to allow an alternative system of voting to be used:

On Sark the system of election is much worse than the already criticised system in the UK as it is a single First Past the Post election based on a single constituency; essentially ALL voters vote for ALL candidates meaning that ALL elections are determined by the existing organised block vote resulting in a single party parliament.

There is no representation for the sizeable disenfranchised minority and, Sark First, with over 100 residents signing up to its campaign, firmly believes, that only with a review of the election process, and, perhaps, enabling a policy of “One Man, One Vote” as an alternative, can a proportional democracy exist."
