The Commonwealth Games Association of Jersey (CGAJ) has decided not to bid to host the Commonwealth Youth Games, in 2021.

Earlier this year the Council of Ministers had backed a bid for the Games.

This is the first year that there will be competition to host the Games, and the CGAJ says that with strong applications from Northern Ireland and Botswana, it's decided not to go forward with its bid:

We are very grateful for the support we received from the Council of Ministers but after discussions it became clear that the other jurisdictions are very well placed to make successful bids so this is not the right time for Jersey.

– Paul du Feu, President of the CGAJ

We would definitely like to host the Commonwealth Youth Games in Jersey at some stage but I believe it is the right decision at this time. By registering an intention to make a bid, the Commonwealth Games Association of Jersey have raised their profile and that of Jersey within the Commonwealth Games Federation.”

– Steve Pallett, Assistant Minister for Sport Connétable
