Liam McGeary becomes first British world champion
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Liam McGeary, who trained in Jersey, has become the first British MMA world champion.
McGeary beat reigning champion Emanuel Newton in Connecticut last night to become Bellator's light heavyweight champion.
After a gruelling five-round fight the British challenger secured a unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-46) to take the title.
32-year-old McGeary remains unbeaten in his professional career and extends his record to 10-0.
