Digital Jersey 'deeply disappointed' in delay with putting government services online

Digital Jersey say they're 'deeply disappointed' that plans to move most government services online have been put on hold.

The States 'egov' programme has been delayed because they haven't found a business to help them run it.

Deeply disappointing. It really is fundamental to the island, it is the way I think for us to reset the social contract between each of us as citizens and the government, it really is that important.

– Paul Masterton, Digital Jersey

But the Treasury Minister, Senator Alan Maclean, says the States are still committed to the project as it will drive inefficiencies in the public sector.

We've probably lost four to six months, we've got to catch up. It is a key priority. I couldn't give you a finite date, but certainly we are keen within the next four to five years to go from 7.5% to 75% of service available online. It is going to drive inefficiencies, it is key to reform and modernisation of the public sector. It's going to make it far more efficient for citizens in Jersey to get access to public services.

– Senator Alan Maclean, Minister for Treasury and Resources
