Channel Islands prepare for 75th anniversary of Liberation

Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will visit Jersey, Guernsey and Sark's respective ceremonies.

Operation Outreach wants to give young people at every school the opportunity to hear from people who lived through the Occupation.

The 'What's Your Street's Occupation Story?' is a series of talks being held at the Jersey Archive.

Launched last week, the project aims to create one large face made up of up to 10,000 smaller ones.

A special edition 75th Anniversary Liberation 50 pence piece will be given to each child of primary school age.

It has been designed by local artist, Mark Cook, who also designed the donkey and foal statue located in Market Square.

The States Assembly voted 39-0 to approve a second Bank Holiday in May to mark the anniversary.

Celebrations and commemorations marking the 75th Liberation Day and Victory in Europe Day could cost £100,000 more in Jersey.

Jersey's government wants the public to come forward with ideas about how parts of St Helier should be redeveloped.

With Liberation Day falling on Saturday 9 July, it will now mean islanders have a three-day-weekend.
