Jersey Care Inquiry report released

The Independent Jersey Care Inquiry report has been published this afternoon.

The key findings include:

  • A condemnation of decades of institutional failure for vulnerable children in the island;
  • Haut de la Garenne building should be demolished for the sake of survivors;
  • children today 'may still be at risk'.

The investigation into historical child abuse in the island's care system has taken three years to complete and cost more than £20 million pounds.

Policewoman praised in Jersey Care Inquiry report

The Independent Jersey Care Inquiry report, which was published on Monday, has praised the work by the States of Jersey Police in driving change and supporting victims.

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Fossey spearheaded changes aimed at putting children first and was commended by Frances Oldham QC.

She told ITV News that she was "really pleased for the team that worked on Operation Rectangle" but says there's still more work to do to safeguard children.
