Jersey manager Martin Cassidy is targeting NatWest Island Games success after his side were beaten 2-1 by Guernsey in the 101st Muratti Vase final on Saturday.

The Casesareans found themselves two goals down after twenty-five minutes at Footes Lane and could not convert their considerable pressure into goals as Guernsey held on to regain the trophy.

Cassidy’s side face a Football Association XI at Springfield next, before travelling to Gotland at the end of June for this summer’s Games.

A 2-1 defeat against the Isle of Man saw Jersey finish seventh on home soil two years ago, but they will hope to challenge for a medal next month.

I’m proud of the players effort. They’ve showed how good a football team they are in possession. We’re just going to go for the Island Games now. We’re going to get ourselves up for this, we’re going to lick our wounds. I’m glad there’s an Island Games coming up, because the best remedy after getting beat in a Muratti is to go and try and win the Gotland Island Games, and that’s certainly what we’ll be trying to do.
