2016 Jersey Hospice Care million pound lottery

Jersey Hospice Care has confirmed that someone has claimed the £1 million lottery jackpot.

The charity could not reveal the winner's identity, as they have chosen to remain anonymous.

But fundraising manager, Linzi Duckworth, said the woman was 'totally overwhelmed.'

Mrs Duckworth says the Monday after the lottery draw is one of her 'favourite days' at the hospice, as the team get to meet the winners.

She also says so many people who have been claiming their prizes have said they will share the money and it seems to be 'bringing out the best in people.'

A group of volunteers from Jersey Hospice Care have scooped a prize in the charity's annual lottery.

As well as the million pound jackpot, ticket holders also had the chance to win smaller prizes of £100,000, £75,000, £50,000, £25,000 and five £10,000 prizes.

The £50,000 prize has been won by a syndicate of people who volunteer their time for the charity.

Hazel Yapp was holding the winning ticket at tonight's draw, but told us she was unsure of how many people she'd be splitting the prize with!

That is because there were two syndicates, one of 30 people and one made up of 10.

£300,000 is still up for grabs!

It is not just prize winners who will benefit from tonight's lottery, most importantly more than £4.5M has been raised for Hospice over the past decade.

That's helped keep it running and allowed it to expand the service it gives to islanders with debilitating illnesses.

Our reporter Hannah Bechelet has spent the last couple of weeks meeting the key people from Hospice.

One of those people is a lady called Mary and this is her story.

The balls are ready and the stage is set for tonight's Jersey Hospice Care million pound lottery, which will broadcast live on ITV Channel TV and on our Facebook page.

It is the tenth year Jersey Hospice Care have staged this draw and in that time a huge £11.7M has been won.

Someone in Jersey is going to be a million pounds better off this evening.

The winning numbers in the Hospice Care lottery are being drawn live in ITV Channel TV's 6pm programme.

At £300 a ticket, many islanders choose to enter as part of a syndicate, meaning hundreds of people could see their bank balance boosted if their numbers come up.

As well as the million pound jackpot there are also several smaller prizes up for grabs.

When tickets sell out, as they have done this year, the lottery raises around £500,000 for the charity.

The annual fundraiser is in its 10th year.

All 6,000 tickets for the Jersey Hospice Care's annual lottery have sold out.

The competition is run by the charity each year to raise funds, with a top prize of £1 million.

The draw will take place on Friday 2nd September, live on ITV Channel TV at 6pm.
