Young dolphin makes Jersey harbour its home

A young dolphin swum into the harbour 10 days ago.

The common dolphin was monitored by Jersey vets and volunteers from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue, who said she was healthy and feeding well.

However, it is thought the animal was so young, it should probably have been with its mother.

Jersey Harbour dolphin goes in search of deeper waters

Volunteers in Jersey are looking for a dolphin, which had been swimming in the harbour for more than a week.

The Common dolphin has not been seen since yesterday morning and it is thought she might have found her way out, having gone in search of deeper waters.

The public are being asked to keep an eye out for the animal, in case it gets into any difficulty and ends up stranded on one of the Island's beaches.

Donna de Gruchy, Jersey Co-ordinator of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue, has thanked Islanders for their care, and for efforts to keep the harbour calm and peaceful while the dolphin was there.

Young dolphin being monitored in Jersey's Old Harbour

The young Dophin spotted swimming in Jersey's La Collette basin has now moved to the old Harbour.

Reports say the animal is behaving normally, and British Divers Marine Life Rescue volunteers (BDMLR) took photos of the dolphin today.

They say she is also feeding well.

The BDMLR say they cannot do anything at present and ask the public to not to feed her.

They advise those in boats to keep their distance and keep the area as peaceful as possible.

Young dolphin still swimming in Jersey marina

The dolphin in the marina

A young dolphin is still stuck in Jersey Harbour, after being spotted there yesterday.

It's thought the animal, which is currently in the tank berth in the marina, is young enough to meant to be with its mother.

John Hamilton from New Era Vets has been out on the water to see the dolphin, who is said to be still healthy and keen to swim alongside the boat.

Teams tried to herd the sea creature into deeper water, but failed.

She will be monitored over the weekend and assessed on a day to day basis by British Divers Marine Life Rescue volunteers and Vet John Hamilton.

Young dolphin stuck near Jersey Harbour

A young dolphin has been spotted swimming just off La Collette basin for the past few hours.

John Hamilton from New Era Vets says the animal is a Common Dolphin and is probably a juvenile.

He added that it is potentially so young that it should be with its mother.

They are leaving the animal alone for now and are asking the public to do the same.
