People in Jersey invited to receive winter flu or covid vaccine as influenza cases continue to rise
Jersey residents who are eligible for the flu vaccine or the covid booster are being invited to have the jabs from today (Friday 10 January).
Pop-up clinics are being held in place across the island until Friday 17 January.
Health Protection Nurse, Emma Baker, says: "Due to the rise in flu cases that we have seen both locally and nationally, I encourage eligible Islanders to come along to our pop-ups for vaccination.
"It remains the best defence against flu and COVID-19. While most people who get flu or COVID will have a mild illness, those in older age groups and with certain health conditions are at a higher risk of developing serious illness and being hospitalised.
"Vaccination not only reduces your chances of the viruses, but it also makes any infection less unpleasant and reduces your infectability which means you won’t pass on the viruses at the same rate as you may do if you were unvaccinated.”
When and where are the clinics?
Friday 10 January: Government of Jersey Union Street Office 10-2pm, Enid Quenault Centre 1pm-5pm
Monday 13 January: St Clement Parish Hall, 9am-1pm
Tuesday 14 January: St Peter Parish Hall 10am-4pm
Wednesday 15 January: Government of Jersey Union Street Office, 2pm-5pm
Thursday 16 January: St Brelade Parish Hall 10-4pm
Friday 17 January: St Ouen Parish Hall, 10am-4pm, Government of Jersey Union Street Office 10am-4pm
Islanders are eligible for the flu vaccine if they are aged between 50 to 64, live with certain health conditions, are a child aged between two and 16 or live with someone immunosuppressed.
Those eligible for both the Covid autumn booster and the flu vaccine must be aged 65 or over and in a clinical risk group, including pregnant women, health care workers and care home residents.
