The Jersey sisters who've regularly met for a walk and catch up, each week for 30 years

  • Meet Margaret, Betty and Ruth...

Meet the three Jersey sisters who meet every week for an outdoors walk and have done so for the passed thirty years.

Ruth, Margaret and Betty get together each Thursday to catch up on each other's news and get all the updates from the family.

No matter what the weather throws at them, the ladies meet. Ruth says: "We look forward to our Thursday walks, we've done it for years. It's a way to get together for the family as well as getting some fresh air. We come back soaking wet sometimes."

Often discussion turns to the latest goings-on in the States of Jersey and deciding what they'd change if they could.

With a laugh, the ladies say they enjoy "putting the world to rights" and add: "We actually discuss the States and how they should be sorting things out and we sort it out in the morning."

It all began when just one of the sisters, Betty, started going for walks by herself. She says: "When I first started I used to do it on my own, then my sister tagged along, then my other sister tagged along and she brought the coffees. It's been a lovely 30 years of walking, every Thursday."

The sisters have even roped in other generations to take part in the weekly event. Margaret explains who else they've talked into lacing up their boots: "We really do enjoy getting together. You look forward to it, we do it as a family. We get our daughters-in-law, daughter and grandchildren to come along if they're over. It's great to be able to get out."

Even a global pandemic wasn't enough to stop these sisters from completing their treks as Margaret adds: "I think it's marvellous. We meet every Thursday. It doesn't matter what weather. Even during covid, we didn't walk close to one another, we still met and it was lovely."
