Islanders petition to stop conversion of Jersey Airport viewing area into paid lounge
A petition has been launched to stop Jersey Airport from converting its viewing area along with the introduction of a No 1 Lounge.
So far the petition on Jersey government's website has more than 250 signatures.
The petition claims: "Jersey Airport is converting the free-to-use upstairs viewing platform in the departures area into a paid-for lounge.
"This is a profit-driven misuse of the space and should be prevented at all costs."
Towards the end of last year, Ports of Jersey announced its plans to redevelop Jersey Airport.
Additions included a new duty-free shop, restaurant, a new seating area, and a children's play area.
However, there are concerns over the introduction of a new No1 Lounge being introduced to the space.
The petition wants the seating area to be "preserved for future generations to enjoy at no extra cost".
Ports of Jersey states: "We hope to create an ‘open to all’ roof terrace between the old and new terminal buildings, a fun play area for children, as well as a quieter area that will provide a calm environment for passengers seeking somewhere peaceful away from the hustle and bustle of the airport.
"We are excited to develop an improved arrivals experience and welcome to Jersey for our passengers."
