Jersey's living wage is set to increase for next year.

The new rate will be £14.13 per hour, with the charity Caritas saying that the living wage has never been as important, particularly given a continuing rise in foodbank usage.

The sum is very similar to two thirds of 2024's median wage of £14.17 - the rate which the States Assembly wants to reach.

Caritas CEO, Patrick Lynch, said: "The new rate was agreed at a meeting of the Jersey Living Wage Advisory Group earlier this week.

"This will be good news for many at accredited organisations and their subcontractors ahead of the new year when many will have increased rental costs and also face increases in the cost of their utilities".

Earlier in the year, it was agreed that the island's minimum wage would increase to £13 per hour from April 2025.

Patrick added: "We encourage the Council of Ministers to continue to make progress with the minimum wage towards parity with the Jersey Living Wage over the remaining 18 months of this assembly and to commit to achieving full parity in the first two years of the next assembly".
