Sark Election Results: Three returning candidates joined by five new faces

Sark's election result sees five new faces elected to help run the island's politics.

However, there will be a recount to confirm the final ninth candidate.

The results were announced before 9pm this evening (Wednesday 11 December) and revealed four returning candidates will be joined by five completely new faces.

Michael John Locke has received the most votes in Sark's first contested election in six years, scoring 179 votes.

Natalie Tighe was in close second with 171 votes, and Christopher Howard Bateson came third with 170 votes.

Edric Baker MBE, Christopher Howard Bateson, and David Charles Peter Curtis are the returning candidates.

Frank William Makepeace received 88 votes, putting him in ninth place. However, there must be an automatic recount if any other candidate is within 5 votes of ninth place.

A recount will take place today (Thursday 12 December).

  • Lord Steven George, 108 votes


The election had a record turnout, with 66% of the electorate heading to the ballot box.

This year was the first time 16-year-olds and 17-year-olds were able to vote.

There were 240 papers issued and 4 spoilt papers.
