Parents in Jersey have taken to social media after finding the wet play area at Coronation Park was closed on the hottest day of the year so far.

Temperatures hit a high of 25.5°C on Tuesday 13 June, but the government-run facility was shut "due to the unavailability of essential chemicals" required to run the pool safely.

One person commented: "Surely you would buy a stockpile of the required chemicals well in advance of the summer season when [the] usage of these facilities are at their greatest."

Another said there is: "Hardly anything to do with kids over here as it is !! It’s actually embarrassing."

On Wednesday morning, the government confirmed the park would re-open for islanders to enjoy.

Millbrook's water play area has had to close on a number of occasions since it first opened in 2022.

Plans for the facility were first submitted in July 2021 and paid for using £750,000 from the island's fiscal stimulus fund.
