Three properties catch fire in Jersey after being struck by lightning
Three properties have caught fire in Jersey after being struck by lightning.
23 firefighters attended the incidents, with all three places hit simultaneously at around 8:45am this morning (8 September).
A house near Les Quennevais School was struck and its chimney exploded, also causing damage to the roof and loft.
The homeowner Jess Ward is a retired firefighter and managed to put out the flames before the fire service arrived.
He says his wife is "lucky to be alive" after being stood outside moments before debris from the chimney flew into the garden.
A petrol garage in St Brelade also caught fire with fuel igniting.
There was a third incident at a house in St Ouen where major internal and electrical damage was caused.
No-one was injured in any of the fires.
