999 emergency numbers, cash points and card machines were all out of action for hours last night due to a Channel Island wide outage from JT. Landlines, mobiles and broadband services in Jersey and Guernsey were all affected by the system failure.

It took engineers 8 hours to rectify the fault.

On social media, islanders reported card machines in supermarkets and ATM cash machines not working.

People calling the emergency services in Jersey from a landline were also unable to connect. Mobile calls were possible.

Care homes were among those who faced significant disruption - with the community care alarm system going completely off line.

JT's Managing Director, Daragh McDermott issued an apology to all affected.
