Face masks could become compulsory in Jersey's shops
It could become compulsory to wear a face covering, such as a mask or scarf, in shops in Jersey.The Health Minister has asked the Scientific and Technical Advisory Cell (STAC) to review the latest evidence and scientific studies relating to face coverings in enclosed spaces.He told the States he is expecting to receive this updated advice from STAC soon.Islanders have been advised to use cloth face coverings in public areas since April, to slow the spread of coronavirus. But as mask wearing has not become commonplace, the government is now considering a harder line.
The minister also told the Assembly that he wasn't planning to bring in temperature checks for departing passengers at the airport and harbour, because they wouldn't detect asymptomatic cases of coronavirus, and it was easy for people to cheat the testing and mask a high temperature.
