A Jersey school is leading the way when it comes to children cycling to class. On Tuesday Les Landes Primary School hit a new record with 41 children cycling in. When ITV News turned up the next day the number more than doubled, which meant 50% of the school population had cycled to school.Headteacher Vicky Charlesworth says their push to get children to travel 'green' has been helped by more parents working from home with more relaxed morning routines - as well as the children's competitive spirit.
Les Landes is in the St Ouen countryside, surrounded by green lanes, however not every school is as accessible by bike. That is something the Department for Infrastructure says it is working on through its Safer Routes to School programme.
Keeping momentum going post-lockdown will be another challenge. That is something Cycle 4 Jersey, a green travel lobbying group, is already onto.
