A politician in Guernsey is calling for cannabis to be decriminalised so that personal use would be allowed.

Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq has put forward an amendment calling on the States to consider regulating the drug for medical, health and wellbeing purposes.

He, in turn, wants the police efforts and money spent cracking down on small scale cannabis users to be focused on reducing alcohol abuse, domestic violence prevention, and substance abuse education.
