Politicians are calling for all parents to be recognised on Guernsey birth certificates
Politicians are calling for all parents to be recognised on Guernsey birth certificates. Currently same-sex couples cannot be named on a birth certificate and children born to unmarried parents are deemed to be illegitimate. Deputy Jennifer Merrett and Alderney Rep. Alexander Snowdon have put forward the amendment, which calls for a fair and modern approach to issuing birth certificates, which ensures that all family types are treated the same.
The proposal asks the government to go away and come back with a plan for modernising birth registration no later than December 2021.
