Schools to plant trees to celebrate 'Children's Day' in Jersey
All of Jersey's schools and nurseries will be able to choose a tree to plant in their grounds today (3 July) to celebrate the first Children's Day in the island.
The day also marks the third anniversary since the Jersey Care Inquiry report was published.
Children will be able to choose from a selection of trees including fruit, flowering or decorative. Then, it will be planted in the Autumn term.
They will also be able to take part in the project by drawing symbols of roots, growth and blossom on posters and pieces of artwork to celebrate childhood.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many arrangements for the day have had to be scaled back, however the government say they have been working closely with the Citizens' Panel to ensure the occasion still gets the go ahead to remember the lessons of the Care Inquiry.
Those looking to take part in the day are being asked to display their pictures of trees in buildings, windows as well as online with the hashtag #JerseyChildrensDay
