After Tuesday's opener between defending champions Cobo and Optimists was washed out, Griffins beat Wanderers/Rovers by 18 runs as Guernsey's delayed domestic season got underway.

Adam Martel top-scored with 44 as the 2016 and 2017 winners posted 129/9 before restricting their opponents, who had reached 75/1 after 10 overs, to 111 to go top of the early table in a new-look Odey Wealth Evening League 1.

This island's premier T20 competition features six sides this year, up from four in 2019, with Wanderers joining forces with Rovers, and Optimists, Independents and Irregulars also moving up from division two.

The tournament, which is being played entirely on mat at the KGV, continues on Wednesday when the well-fancied Independents face Irregulars.
