Jersey Bulls to play in same league next season as promotion hopes dashed
Jersey Bulls look set to remain in the division they dominated last season after being told there will be no movement between leagues at steps 3-7 of the non-league pyramid.
Gary Freeman's side had mathematically sealed promotion from Combined Counties Division One after winning 27 from 27 in their debut season, before it was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement, the club said they had been informed by the Football Association and Combined Counties Football League that there would be no movement of clubs this summer, even if there are vacancies in higher divisions.
Jersey Bulls director Ian Horswell, who put his name to a joint letter from dozens of clubs around the country appealing the decision to null and void the season, put forward his own solution to how the situation with league movements could have been handled:
The Bulls had begun their journey in English football at the start of August last year, following in the footsteps of Guernsey FC, who took the same route in 2011.
But, having broken league records in a season in which they were barely troubled on the pitch, they will now have to repeat the process to fulfil their ambitions of moving up the leagues.
The FA and CCFL have yet to confirm when the 2020/21 season will start, although it will be later than the usual early-August kick-off.
