Guernsey's Policy and Resources Committee says it will vote against proposals for a new dairy for the island.

Writing to the States' Presiding Officer, Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq said the government must reassess its spending plans in light of the coronavirus crisis, with a focus on 'critical infrastructure' as part of its recovery strategy.

He says any work carried out on the project, estimated to cost around £25 million, would be done without any funding ring-fenced or agreed for it by the Assembly.

Deputy Le Tocq says as well as voting against the policy letter, the Committee would encourage other politicians to do the same.

Earlier this year, the Dairy's hygiene rating dropped from four stars to two because of the standard of the building.

Five options were drawn up for States Members to consider on how to improve the facilities, with a brand new site as the preferred option.
