Dean of Guernsey urges Christians to join Black Lives Matter protest
The Dean of Guernsey has encouraged Christians to join a protest in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement over the weekend.
In a joint statement with the Superintendent Minister of the Guernsey Methodist Circuit, The Very Rev. Tim Barker says churches are 'not immune from criticism' over treatment of minority groups.
The Dean said the Church has not always led conversations around the issue and urged his fellow Christians to join the peaceful demonstration.
Demonstrations have taken place across the world following the death of George Floyd, who was killed by police officers in Minnesota.
The Dean described his death as 'appalling', saying problems like racism can only be solved when people are 'willing to work together in harmony.'
More than 600 people have registered an interest in attending the event, which will take place between noon and 1pm at the Quay, St Peter Port.
