Game on for six-a-side football in Guernsey

Footballers in Guernsey will be among the first in the world to return to six-a-side action after a major league operator confirmed it will resume play in the island on Wednesday 24 June.

It will be the first football played across Leisure Leagues' worldwide network since 19 March, when action was suspended at all of its sites because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Some 300 players take part in the company's Guernsey divisions, with around 30 teams featuring at the KGV each week.

Leisure Leagues, which caters for around a million players in five countries, has issued hygiene and distancing guidelines ahead of the return of match action.

Guernsey has not recorded a new confirmed case of Covid-19 for more than 45 days and is set to move to the next phase of its exit from lockdown, lifting all on-island restrictions, on Saturday 20 June.
