Guernsey motorsport legend Andy Priaulx to step back from full-time racing

Guernsey motorsport legend Andy Priaulx has announced his decision to step back from full-time racing, bringing an end to his career as a championship driver.

The three-times World Touring Car champion said the travel restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic and his desire to give more support to his son Seb's career were big factors in the move.

He said he also wants to give more focus to his wider role with automotive company Mulitmatic, where he will continue to work on car development.

Priaulx has enjoyed a long career at the top of the sport, including stints in DTM in Germany and with Ford in the World Endurance Championship, where he made several appearances in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The 45-year-old made his return to World Touring Cars last year, helping team Lynk & Co Cyan Racing to the constructors' championship.

Individually, he topped the podium in the penultimate stop of the series in Macau, where he had also enjoyed considerable success earlier in his career.
