Crews on Guernsey fishing boats won't have to self-isolate when returning to Bailiwick

Fishing boats from Guernsey and Alderney will be allowed land their catches in the UK, France and Jersey without their crew needing to self-isolate upon their return.

Guernsey Ports has so far approved 25 applications from the local fishing community for the exemption, which aims to help keep their businesses afloat during the coronavirus crisis.

Travel restrictions were introduced at the start of the pandemic to protect the community from the spread of Covid-19, with a 14 day self-isolation period becoming a legal requirement for anyone entering the Bailiwick.

However, in order to keep critical services running, a number of exceptions have been made, following approval from the island's Director of Public Health.

In the case of fishing boats, it was decided that people on the boat do not have to self-isolate as they do not leave their vessels or have any physical contact with those ashore.
