Thousands of children returned to school in Guernsey today (8 June), after 11 weeks at home.
Students from all year groups are now allowed to attend, and headteachers have been working to meet physical distancing and hygiene guidelines in and out of the classroom.
At St Mary & St Michael Catholic Primary School, headteacher Helen Shepherd says the first day back has been a big success.
The Senior Education Advisor in Guernsey says the return to school has been a success and shows the huge steps the community has taken in managing the response to coronavirus.
Schools in Jersey have also introduced physical distancing measures, but they have only welcomed back years 6, 10 and 12.
Plat Douet Primary School has had to erect a marquee to give them extra space for the two year 6 classes.
As only some of the school is on site, it's a challenge to meet their needs as well as those still at home.
Plat Douet has also been teaching children of essential and critical workers in 'pods' which they can't mix outside of.
The whole school now has staggered start times and breaks.
Jersey's government is due to make an announcement about bringing further year groups back to school in the next two weeks.
