Jersey's Health Minister is calling for changes to the law to make it illegal to be less than two metres apart with people from outside of your household.

The offence, if introduced, would make it illegal to ignore a police officers instruction to stop breaking the two metre social distancing.

People found guilty of breaking this law would face a penalty fine of up to £1,000.

Children would not be excluded from the rule, with parents liable.

If passed, the new law would be enforced by the Honorary Police and the States of Jersey Police.

The law would not be applied during an emergency or for those needing medical attention. It would also not apply to people working on certain construction sites.
