Sark to open its borders in June

Sark has announced that it will open its borders to other Bailiwick islands from the start of June.

It means people from Guernsey, Alderney and Herm will be able to visit Sark after it first closed in March because of coronavirus.

It comes as Guernsey begins to loosen its lockdown restrictions after getting Covid-19 under control.

However Sark will remain closed to visitors from outside of the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

Meanwhile, one of the hotels in the island says it now hopes to open earlier than expected.

Guernsey entered phase three on 16 May and has not had any new cases of unexplained community transmission since 21 April 2020.

Officials in Sark say they are looking forward to when it is safe to invite those from Jersey, the UK and the rest of the world to the island.

Those in Herm say they are still working closely with the States of Guernsey and the ferry company Travel Trident, to implement a reopening strategy for themselves.

An announcement on that is expected next week.
